December 2013 Ornament Project

Image
Every now and then I get in a mood to make a batch of Christmas Tree ornaments. I've posted about them a couple of times in the past . I ran across the instructions to these stars and churned out a couple of dozen of them for family and friends. Here are the ones I kept for myself: So remember how I finished all of those UFOs earlier this year? By July I had finished 11 quilts. In October I made a quick wall hanging and that was the last project I finished in 2013 besides these ornaments. Not that I wasn't sewing. I've simultaneously been working on a full-sized t-shirt quilt (it's all done except the binding!!!) and a twin-sized bed quilt. But neither one got finished in 2013, so the year ended on a bit of a whimper compared to how it started out. Still, if you include the stars, I finished 13 projects last year. Not too shabby. I don't have the incentive of a UFO contest for this year, so we'll see what I can find to motivate myself. I went back to wo...

Oh Christmas Trees!

Not too long ago I saw a demo at a local quilt shop about how to make these cute little Christmas tree ornaments. The pattern, from The Quilt Company in Pittsburgh cost a ridiculous $2.50. I bought the pattern, pulled some scraps, and got to work. Now I can't seem to stop making them! I have quite a few. More than I need. Want one? I'll mail one to 3 randomly selected commenters. Leave a comment by Midnight EST (0500 GMT) and I'll do the drawing then. I'll try to get them in the mail to winners on Wednesday--if you live in the U.S. you might get it by Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas!

Hmmm, It's been awhile...

Gee, has it really been nearly a month since I posted anything here? I guess so. I've certainly read a few books that have been worth writing about, but I just couldn't summon the energy to write about them. Probably because I was doing a fair bit of sewing between books. Since I'm working on a variety of projects nothing's finished yet. But here's a picture of a small top I finished the other night. This was from a kit I bought on a shop hop last summer and only took me a couple of hours to put together. I also made a whole bunch of ornaments for various folks. Here are samples of the 3 different ones I made: Next up, but not tonight, a brief review of some of the more interesting books I read during my Christmas vacation.
